Why are we at college? Is it to graduate with a degree that will allow us to be successful out of college? Is it to win a National Championship (like Syracuse will do, yes I am predicting it and don’t care if I’m wrong, yall will give me crap no matter what)? Or is your purpose to live out this song?
So I know yall have heard this song before and a lot of you really like it, I mean it is currently #6 on iTunes. This song really didn’t bug me that much when I first heard it but everytime it plays I’m torn. The other day I was in someone’s room and we found a journal of their roommates, it was a list of memories that all involved alcohol or sex or both. I just sat there wondering who would want to look at this after college and remember the horrible things that they had done. Let me make this straight, this post is not about smashing people who go out to party it’s just my concerns with how our younger generation now is percieving college (like my sister). Tonight at FCA Jon Ludovina came to speak about alcohol and were alcohol stands in the Bible.
I’m just a lowely freshmen who really isn’t sure about what my future has in store for me, but I am positive that I’m not at Clemson to act like that (maybe at USC but not Clemson haha) “Time isn’t wasted when you’re getting wasted” Are you kidding me? How is your time not wasted while you are getting swashted? Do I really want to go through college not remembering my weekends and trying to figure out what STD I got last night from that girl that I will never see again? Heck no!!! I might not know what I want to do for the rest of my life but I do know that. In Matthew 28:18-19 it says “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” I’d say that this is a better way to spend my time then out partying.
I mentioned early about the view of college through the eyes of our younger siblings. Coming into college I knew about the rumors about the party scene and how it would be possible to go out a get plastered everynight, but I only realized that around Sophmore year of high school. Now kids listen to the radio and here Asher Roth’s new hit and think wow so thats what college is all about, getting drinking, getting girls naked, and then doing the whole thing again. I am extremely protective over my sister, as most of you know, but I can’t be at home right now and make sure that she doesn’t listen to this song. I can only hope that she isn’t listening to the radio when it comes on. Now this is not to say that my sister is going to want to party because of this, but I don’t want her to get that impression of college at all.
So seriously think about why you are here at college and how we are showing people what college really is.
Love yall (and it’s freakin 4:25 a.m. this time, but we will thank Michael for the wanderings tonight)
Kit
